Hm. I seem to have fallen off the internets again. My apologies. I’ll try to stop that this time.
I’m currently listening to a (scary!) thunderstorm outside, as the rain pours down. The radio is playing some sort of trancy, new age stuff (you never know what you’re going to get from WFMU…), and I’m just about ready to go to sleep. Work will be coming far too soon for my one good.

I had quite an unexpected dose of good luck this past weekend.
Friday night, the south shore band in staten island had our concert. It went pretty well, and I learned that Santa has a new York drivers license, and wears red underpants. We went to a local bar afterwards for drinks and food, and frank, one of my trombones, picked up the bill for our side of the table. He’s so sweet!

I am taking a very very rare vacation. And saving money, by staying home. Yay. Means I get more knitting, spinning, and more computer time out of it.
This past weekend Hillary and I headed up to Hartford to go to Stitches East. I think our discovery was, hey, there’s a lot of yarn.
Qiviut is SO SOFT. Suri alpaca is nummy. I wound up with a Blue Moon Fiber Arts sheep to sock kit from Webs, and I knit on the Big Sock.
Yesterday, we headed in to the city to go to the WFMU record and CD fair. Old records have such a definite musty smell to them, it’s amazing. I also realized that the PATH train has a distinctive odor. It’s not the same as the subway, but it’s a scent that’s been constant since I was a little girl.
Today, I finished the first of my Glynis socks from Cookie A’s amazing book, and I’m working on the afghan of doom for my friends Jeffry and Emily’s wedding gift… The wedding was in July. Hey, Miss Manners says I have a year to send the gift.

So, my parents are in town this weekend for my cousin sandy’s wedding. Unfortunately, thus means I get to miss out on not one, but two other events which I’d so much rather be at.
Event number one would be homecoming at my Alma mater, UMass Amherst. I’d love to have been there for the Multibands concert tonight, even if I hated rehearsals for it as a student. On the other hand, tomorrow’s game looks like it may be a literal washout. Good old raincoming. It was horrible weather last time I was on campus in 2002.
The second event I’m missing is Rhinebeck- the Mecca of all knitters and spinners, also known as the New York sheep and wool festival. And most of my knitting group is going. Meanies.

Methods of procrastination are many and varied.
I am supposed to be writing a paper for my English class- biographies on two authors and how specific stories demonstrate autobiographical elements.
Instead, I am doing anything else I possibly can.
I’ve been to Ravelry. Fortunately, I only commented on a couple of threads in which I’d already posted.
I’ve been on subeta.net. Just for a minute, though. Oooh, I should be able to trick-or-treat again though.
I’ve taken a 10-minute spinning break. I don’t know what it was a break from… I’ve not done anything in particular.
Well, I did write… mmm… maybe 8 sentences about Charlotte Perkins Gilman. I guess that’s a start. And I have my links open for my information about Alice Walker. So I have research. Or something.

There was nothing. And then, there was a post. And not the normal “hello world!” post, but a real one. And it was good.
*coughs*
Hubris? What’s that?
Anyways. Welcome to my corner of the internets. My handle is Doris, but only because I was given the name at work. I’m an avid knitter and gamer, a newbie spinner, and a proud new kindle-owner, who probably has no idea WTF she’s gotten herself into.
So… Who are you? Got any suggestions for reads? Right now I’m in the middle of Lirael, the second book in the Abhorsen trilogy by Garth Nix.
Hm… Eventually I’ll update the links on the sidebar to connect to my goodreads account, and my Ravelry. Mwahaha! (zomg my iPhone just correctly autocapitalized Ravelry!)
